North Shields played host to the first of three touring teams to end the current season with the visit of Avondale RFC on Saturday.
And the side from near Bath brought a large touring party with them.
The Shields side featured a mixture of first and second team players who were able to relax and enjoy the game after a successful season for both sides.
Rhys Coltherd was made captain of the side as he was playing one of his final games for the club before leaving to join the Royal Air Force.
The starting pack was mostly made up of second team players with the backs mostly first team regulars.
The first half was a tight affair and the sole points came from Avondale with an unconverted try.
The second half saw Shields draw level with a try from second row powerhouse Owen Irving.
Avondale again retook the lead with an unconverted try before Shields sneaked the win with a try form Andrew Leitch and conversation from Gavin Duffy to make the final score 12-10 to Shields.
