Eagles flying high as U12s win rugby league final

WALLSEND Eagles had mixed results in the North East Junior Rugby League Cup final day with their Under 12s being victorious while the Under 16s missed out.

Wallsend won the under 12s final in a very competitive game that saw the Shildon based team launch a late comeback but Wallsend were too strong and held out for the win.

Wallsend Eagles Squad: Ciaran Wrightson, Tom Wood, Connor Lawson, Dan Marshall, Matty Smith, Danny Atkinson, Kyle Bradley, Stephen Close, Ben Mahdoul, Ben Marshall, Mark Barry, Reece Lambert, Lee Barlow.

IN the under-16’s League Cup final, Wallsend Eagles appeared nervous as they suffered a heavy defeat to Peterlee Pumas.

It all went wrong from the beginning, fluffing the kick-off before being pinned in their own 20 for the first few minutes following several errors.

And although the Eagles rallied in the first ten minutes, they failed to score due to the excellent defence from Pumas.

Pumas then took control and a series of well executed moves broke the Wallsend line.

Good support running helped to build up a 40-0 half-time lead.

Wallsend stuck to their task all day but were always up against it and were rewarded with a consolation try by Alex Glover near the end of the game who ran the full length of the pitch to score under the posts.

The Eagles were hoping to do better than when they had played the Pumas in season fixtures but were not helped by the absence of several key players due to holidays.
