NORTH Tyneside Badminton Academy hosted its third competition for North Tyneside which was open to all juniors in the north east.

The competition held at Hadrian Leisure Centre on February 2 had an amazing turnout with north east representation of juniors in the under-13s and under-18s from North Tyneside Badminton Academy, John Spence High School, Newcastle Performance Centre, West End Cobra’s, Kings School, John Watt Academy, Burnside High School, Whitley Chapel, Tyneside Sharks, Stars of the Sea, Morpeth, Walkergate Primary, Corbridge Middle, Marden Middle, George Stephenson and Ponteland Middle.

The standard of play was exceptionally high and certainly gave the academy players a run for their money with tough finals to see the following placements:

Under-18s singles winner: Jack Bennett (North Tyneside Badminton Academy). Runner up: Dean Martin (West end Cobra’s).

Under-13’s singles winner: Will Richardson (Corbridge Middle). Runner up: Alex Jay (Tyneside Sharks).

Under-18s doubles winners: Dean Martin (West end Cobras) and Ross Donaldson (Whitley Chapel). Runners up: Thomas Scrivens (West end Cobras) and Nathan Simpson (John Watt Academy).

Under-13s doubles winners: Emily Harrison (Tyneside Sharks) and Alexandra Howard (Tyneside Sharks). Runners up: Jamie Sample (North Tyneside Badminton Academy) and David Short (North Tyneside Badminton Academy).

The academy would like to thank the centre and all of the schools, players, parents and clubs involved in making this a success.
