ICE hockey fans from near and far are preparing to head to Whitley Bay for a clash between two of the former greats.
And among those who have caught the imagination of the Whitley Warriors Legends vs Durham Wasps Legends is Rolf Hang-Stockenschneider, an avid hockey fan from Duisburg in Germany, who saw an advert in Powerplay magazine for the game and decided to snap up a ticket to catch his first British game since 1988.
“Even though I am out here in Germany I subscribe to Powerplay and when I saw the advert and all the information about the game I was excited and enthusiastic about it,” he said.
“I ordered my ticket from the Legends Ice Hockey website and booked my flights straight away, this is too good to miss.
“I visited Whitley Bay Ice Rink a few years ago when I was visiting England, but I never got the chance to see an ice hockey game there.”
The game will take place on Sunday, May 6. For further information visit www.legendsicehockey.co.uk
Rolf added: “I am looking forward to returning to see the Warriors play at their home rink, something I didn’t have the opportunity to do on my last visit.”
But it will not be the first time Rolf has seen the Durham Wasps and Whitley Warriors in action.
“I visited Wembley in 1988 for the Heineken playoff championships and saw the Durham Wasps defeat the Murrayfield Racers 11-8 in the first semi-final, but unfortunately the Whitley Warriors lost to the Fife Flyers 13-5 in the second semi-final.”
Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions via www.legendsicehockey.co.uk/tickets or Whitley Bay Ice Rink
