SEVEN members of Wallsend’s Bushido Judo Kwai competed at the North East Open Judo Championships, winning two gold medals and two silvers.
Taking first gold at the event held at Newcastle’s Westgate Centre for Sport was eight-year-old Jack Barnett, in the boys’ primary under 30 kilo group.
Liam Banks, 12, took gold in the boys’ under 60 kilo event.
Eight-year-old Ellie Hutton won her silver medal in the girl’s primary under 27 kilo group and last year’s club champion Jessica Cairns, 11, took the silver in the girls’ under 45 kilo event.
Competing in their first competition, seven-year-old Jack Compton was awarded a runner up medal in the boys’ primary under 30 kilo group and Leon Milner, 11, was also awarded a runner-up medal in the boys’ under 45 kilo event.
Senior member Robert Stuart, 16, competed in what was his first senior event – the men’s under 81 kilo group – and was unlucky not to get into the medals.
