EIGHT junior members of Wallsend-based Bushido Judo Kwai took part in the Newcastle Area British Judo Council Open tournament held at the Parks Sport Centre in North Shields.

And the club did exceptionally well on the day, winning gold through Jessica Cairns, age 11; Calum McInnes, ten; Jack Ross, 13; and Joe Ross, 15.

A silver medal went to eight-year-old Jack Barnett, competing in his first judo competition.

Bronze went to Ellie Hutton, seven, while competing in particularly hard pools Millie Richardson, eight, and Liam Banks, 12, were presented with runner-up medals.
