Rockcliff were victorious 27-15 against a strong South Tyneside College side in their second match of the pre-season calendar.
Although the match was billed as a friendly, both teams have promotion hopes in their respective leagues and as a result the game was played with a competitive edge.
The visitors seemed to have the upper hand in the tight as Rockcliff struggled to find their feet in the scrum and lineout, the College pack making it difficult to get any clean ball to the danger men in the backs.
On the occasions Rockcliff did get the ball wide, the crowd were treated to some great running rugby, resulting in the back three of Steven Scott, Rhys Wiley and Andrew Telford (2) running in some well worked tries.
Club captain Andrew Webster added the extra points with the boot with two conversions and a penalty.
Rockcliff played extremely well in phases, and their hard work in pre-season showed as their fitness around the park was exceptional allowing them to play an expansive game more suited to the strength of their back line.
