PERCY Main Cricket Club’s head coach Blyth Duncan Snr has been honoured for his work in the sport and local community.

In recognition of his 30 years as a county coach, 15 years as a national coach to England Deaf, his contribution to the revival of Percy Main’s junior cricket and his work with Percy Main Primary School, Blyth was named Sports Coach of the Year at the North Tyneside Council Sports Awards.

In his acceptance speech, he paid tribute to Ron Young, of Durham, and his colleague with England Deaf over the 15 years, and Colin Danskin, with whom he started his county coaching.

The award was presented by last year’s Disabled Sports Personality of the Year, Blyth Duncan Jnr – his son.
