WHITLEY Bay Islanders Ice Hockey Club travelled to Sheffield for the annual national recreational ice hockey tournament – and came away winners.
The tournament consists of 15 teams from across the country playing eight games over the weekend in a round robin format.
After the Saturday’s games the Islanders were seeded one with three wins and a draw for the Sunday championships group.
On the Sunday the Islanders continued to play the best hockey of the tournament, winning all four games without conceding a goal and scoring seven – becoming the recreational champions of 2011.
The Islanders are currently competing in the Midlands Summer Cup and have the following home games coming up: August 14, Blackburn Falcons and August 21, Kingston Cobras; face-off at 4.15pm for all games, free entry and everyone is welcome to attend.
