Battlehill Judo Club travelled to Scotland to join 500 competitors from 65 clubs competing in the Ultimate Judo Open Competition, a Scottish Judo Grand Prix event held at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh.

Maddox Fuller from Cramlington lost his first contest in the boys’ u34 group to the eventual gold medal winner, but he then won his next four in the repechage to secure a well earned bronze.

Jenni Francis from Wallsend was only defeated in the final of the girls’ u32kg event to return with a silver.

Ellie Hutton from Wallsend won three fights with some exceptional judo to gain the gold medal.

Joe Carroll and Josh Stoneman from Wallsend fought well in the u34 and u55kg groups, both securing fifth places, Carroll winning two hard contests from a large group of 17 competitors.

McKeown from Newcastle won three from three in a very strong group of boys’ u60kg players.

Kieran Hardaker had a tough group moving up to the u81kg category, returning with a bronze medal, while Kieran Tweedy from Cramlington finished the day winning all of his contests in the u66kg event to secure yet another gold for the club.

The club returned with three gold, one silver and two bronze from eight competitors.

The club trains on a Monday, Wednesday and Sunday at Wallsend and Cramlington. For further information contact Malcolm Young on 07803 745184 or email m@bhjudo.com
