The second Over 50s Social Badminton Tournament in North Tyneside took place in the Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields and attracted entries from all over the north east.
The ages of players ranged from 50 to 77 and the standard of play and atmosphere were excellent.
There were plenty of close matches and the tournament organisers from the North Tyneside Badminton Partnership and Bewicke Badminton Club were impressed by the spirit, effort and obvious enjoyment of the players, most of whom play in various social sessions and leisure centres.
All winners and runners-up received trophies donated by Jeera Tandoori in North Shields.
The ladies’ doubles was won by Jo Donaldson and Lillian Allison, with Diane Mitchie and Geraldine Dodds runners-up.
The men’s doubles was won by Ian Miller and Tony Good with Ian Henderson and William Henderson the beaten finalists.
In the mixed doubles, Ian Henderson and Joyce Bucan took the title over runners-up Mike Turton and Honore Blenkinsop.
Ian Henderson played with his father William in the men’s doubles.
The next social tournament for players over 16 is on Sunday, November 29, in Hadrian Leisure Centre, Wallsend. Entry forms can be obtained by emailing Viv.firstname.lastname@example.org and the closing date for entries is Monday, November 23.
