Laura Van Ransbeke swept all before her to win the ladies’ singles, girls’ 14s and girls’ 16s singles on club finals day at Collingwood Tennis Club at Priors Park, Tynemouth.
Laura became the youngest winner of the ladies’ singles aged 14 and was also unlucky not to get to the doubles with partner Ailsa Denholm.
Game of the day was Eleanor King against Lucy Robinson in the girls’ orange final, which went to three sets with King coming through 10-8 against a much improved Robinson.
Josh Harrison won the boys’ green event, beating Sam Thompson in a close third set 10-8.
Olly Drake did the boys’ double of 16s and 18s with victories over Sam Allonby and Dan McDermott respectively.
Emily Harrison relished the prospect of not facing Van Ransbeke again in another final and was too powerful for Mia Wallace, winning in straight sets in the girls’ 12s.
The Allonby family continued to dominate, but this time it was Polly who won the girls’ mini red final, beating Elizabeth Graham in three sets.
Not to be out done, brother Gabe Allonby went on to retain the boys’ 12s title, beating Josh Harrison in probably the best quality game of the day.
He then teamed up with brother Sam to win the 18s doubles and also teamed up with Matt Smith to win the 12s doubles, beating Josh Harrison and Dan Collins in the last game of the day.
Senior finals winners were men’s singles Peter Carmichael, ladies’ singles Laura Van Ransbeke, men’s doubles Peter Carmichael and Adham Harker, ladies’ doubles Lauren Jones and Helen Cass, mixed doubles Jianjun Shi and Qun Li.
