NORTH Shields-based the Terminus Judo Club had a number of members taking part in the Newcastle area grade and veteran tournament held at the Parks Sports Centre.

The club entered 21 players into the competition, with all of them winning medals.

Gold medals were awarded to Ben Smith, Lando Simoa, Ben Patrick, Caitlan Mcandrew, Marcia Sa and Esme Suddick.

Picking up silver medals were Sam Smith, Jairo Simoa, Morgan Coyne, Hannah Dunn, Georgia Bell and Marcia Sa.

Among the bronze medal winners were Calum Matheson, Kieran Brown, Sam Edmundson and Jack Craig

And there were runner-up medals for Connor Brookes, Ben Eccles, Owen Casey, Chloe Penton and Courtney Ellis, these players were attending a competition for the first time and acquitted themselves well with effort and determination.

Marcia Sa achieved two medals on the day winning gold in her group then moving up into the next group taking the silver medal

In the senior event Russell Craig took the bronze medal with an all round good performance on the day.

Craig only recently took up the sport after taking his son Jack to the club and deciding to take part himself, from which point he has gradually progressed well.

The players are coached by Bill Tierney. Session times are juniors 6.15pm to 7.15pm and seniors 7.15pm to 8.15pm.
