Mischiefs get better of Manchester Phoenix

THE Mischiefs headed down to Manchester for their first away game of the season to take on the Manchester Phoenix under-tens on their own ice.

The game started well for both teams with Whitley showing no signs of ‘bus legs’ even after their mad dash to get ready and having no warm up due to a one hour traffic jam on the motorway, which resulted in them arriving at the rink 15 minutes before face-off. They managed to get themselves ready and on the ice with literally one minute to spare. Even after all that it was Whitley who were first on the scoreboard with a goal from Jack Hennebelle at 9.25. That was followed a couple of minutes later by the equaliser from Manchester J Griffin at 11:50. The remainder of the period was fast-paced with some excellent defending from both teams and it was down to that and some fantastic saves from both goalies that meant the first period finished 1-1.

Whitley were first to score in the second period with a goal from Owen Curry at 25:52. Less than a minute later Manchester equalised again with a goal from D Harcourt at 27:01. Eleven seconds later Whitley were ahead again courtesy of Evan Richardson at 27:12. Manchester were level again at 31:05 thanks to another goal from D Harcourt but Whitley soon had the lead again thanks to another goal from Evan Richardson at 32:52. The rest of the period was all about the Mischiefs, good attacking and defence and Evan Richardson completed his hat-trick at 40:53 with Luke Royle finding the back of the net at 42:47. The second period finished Whitley 6-3 Manchester.

The third period started with Manchester trying their best to even the score up a bit and it took some brilliant net-minding from Daniel Crowe in the Mischiefs goal to stop them. They managed to sneak one past him at 45:40 with D Harcourt completing his hat-trick. Whitley found the back of the net again at 47:50 thanks to another goal from Thomas Fraser and then a goal from Jack Hennebelle at 65:28 and another from Evan Richardson (his fourth of the game) at 66:35 sealed the win for Whitley and the game ended Mischiefs 9-4 Phoenix.

Spirit of the game award for Whitley went to Jack Hennebelle.
