RUGBY league is on the rise in the north east with the latest official statistics confirming that 2012 has been the best season ever in terms of the number of people playing the sport.
With the season now finished, representatives from the RFL’s north east team continue to attend events to raise the profile of the sport.
There are now 17 men’s teams and these contribute to a total of 1,032 open age players registered so far in 2012.
And during the 2011-12 academic year more than 11,000 primary and secondary school children received coaching in the north east.
