YOUNG badminton stars have been rewarded for their promising talent.

Sarah Wilson and Adi Menon were presented with their awards for being ‘The Most Promising U12 Boy and Girl in Northumberland’.

The awards, created nine years ago by then North Tyneside Council chairman, Coun John Carter, showcase the two best youngsters playing badminton in the county.

Sarah and Ali were chosen by Newcastle Performance Centre head coach Rob Wetherell for their commitment, hard work, and general improvement this season.

Outgoing council chairman Coun Duncan McLellan was delighted that for the second year in a row, one of the winners is from North Tyneside – Adi, who lives in West Allotment.

Sarah hails from County Durham, but thanks to a birth qualification, plays for Northumberland.

An enjoyable evening was had by the winners, their families, and other guests at the civic reception.
