TWO junior members of Wallsend-based Bushido Judo Kwai represented the club at the International Budo Federation.

They took part in the 2012 Scottish Judo Open Championship in Dumfries.

Eight-year-old Ellie Hutton took gold in the girls’ under-8 30-kilo event.

Then Jessica Cairns, 11, who is currently the top junior at the Bushido Judo Kwai, followed in Ellie’s footsteps, taking the gold in the girls’ under 40-kilo group.

The Bushido Judo Kwai is based at Kings Estate Residents’ Association, Milfield Avenue, Kings Estate, Wallsend.

The previous day, members and parents were surprised by the arrival of Bob Carpenter, one of the Olympic torchbearers in the area.

As well as showing the torch to everyone and giving students the opportunity to have their photograph taken with it, Bob gave a short presentation on the importance of fitness.

Bob, 70, is an ambassador of fitness for life and an inspiration to everyone.

Both his children Margaret and David, trained at the club as far back as 1978.
