GOLFER Peter Ruscoe successfully defended the top spot in a winter tournament held at Whitley Bay Golf Club.

Peter won the inaugural event last year and has now taken home the trophy for a second time.

The Winter Trophy was set up by a small group of golfers from the club during the off season 2010.

This year, only 0.8 of a point separated Peter from Runner up Godfrey Weir and there were some top scores by all the participants, with no less than three golfers including Peter, Godfrey and Malcom Hudson topping 43, 42 and 40 points respectively.

Peter started with a handicap of 19 and finished with a handicap of 13 and finished the season with an average of 33.13 points with Godfrey Weir in close pursuit, averaging 32.33 points.
