Players are honoured for the season at Rockcliff

WHITLEY Bay Rockcliff RFC celebrated the close of their 124th season with the annual players’ dinner.

The player of the season award went to club captain Andrew Webster, with Bryan Stewart earning the players’ player of the season award.

Richard Berne earned the most improved player of the year while first team ties for ten appearances in the season went to Duncan Jordan, Lewis Partis, Dale Harrison and Dan Atkinson.

For the Vikings, Chris Keen was nominated as player of the season, with Lewis Partis receiving the most improved player trophy, and Andrew Telford the players’ player of the year award.

The third team awards went to Steven Mason as the Rangers player of the year. Jamie Shardlow was the most improved player, and the players’ player was Matty Dunbar.

The season will come to a close on May 12 with the tenth Rockcliff Super 10s tournament, with local and touring sides competing for two trophies. The competition starts at midday and runs until 6pm.

Rockcliff junior and mini sections held their awards ceremonies, with Alex Hayton winning the player of the year for the under-13s, Ben Blenkey the coaches choice and Joe Lampton most improved player.

For the under-14s, Charlie Milne won the coaches choice, Michael Robinson the most improved trophy and Ryan Snaith player of the year.

Rockcliff’s touch section has got its season under way with training on Thursdays at 6.30pm at the ground in Lovaine Avenue.

The touch teams are competing in the Falcons touch competition on Wednesday nights.
