Four members from Wallsend’s Bushido Judo Kwai competed at the British Judo Council Northeast Open Judo Championships, held at Westgate Centre for Sport in Newcastle.

Zac Ellerby, nine, retained his position at the top of the club’s medal table when he won gold in the boy’s primary under 36kg event, winning all his contests with full points.

Lydia Bamford, seven, won a silver in the primary under 28kg event, while Jack Barnett, ten, showed excellent fighting spirit in the junior boy’s under 40kg event where he took the bronze, just missing out on the silver.

Nine-year-old Jack Compton competed in the primary over 36kg event and was awarded a runner up medal.
