Whitley Bay Rockcliff Under-14s will go for glory in the Northumberland County Cup final this weekend after beating local rivals Percy Park.
Coach Simon Forster’s team overcame their neighbours 38-5 at their Lovaine Avenue ground to set up a final against reigning champions Northern at Druid Park on Sunday (3.45pm).
“Rockcliff came out on top in one of the best attended games at Hillheads this season, which pitted school-mates against each other,” Forster said.
“It was initially a closely fought game before Rockcliff gained the ascendancy and ran out 38-5 winners, with tries coming from Ben Potter, Ryan Mills, Cameron Ilderton, Roger Hood and Charlie Johnson while Joey Darwin responded for Park.
“It was a tremendous game of rugby, played very hard but fair and in the true spirit of the game. Both teams left the field having a great deal of respect for each other.”
