A YOUNG judo star has been given the highest honour at his club in recognition of his achievements.

Roy White joined Bushido Judo Kwai in April 2003 and has made steady progress.

In December 2007 he won the Wallsend-based club’s Judoka of the Year Award, then after a short break from the sport returned in July 2010.

Roy, a student at Burnside School in Wallsend, has now won the Bushido Judo Kwai’s highest accolade – the Steve Milsted Award.

Steve, who was a founder member of the club and now lives in Australia, wanted the award to go to the junior member who has finished in the number one position, in the medal table.

The award was presented on May 3, which was the club’s 35th anniversary.
