WHITLEY Bay Rockcliff RFC mini/juniors section has grown over the past few years, and now has 150 youngsters on its books.

The club has now formed a separate committee to look after the older group of 13 to 18-year-olds, and a number of other changes have taken place.

Phil Blythe has stood down as chairman of mini rugby, with Simon Penhall taking on this role.

Vikki Milne is the new chairman of junior rugby and Sue Penhall will replace Kath Henderson looking after the shop.

The club passed a big thank you to Phil and Kath for the hard work they have done helping establish the sections.

Also a thank you was given to everyone who took part in bag packs at Morrisons, where £1,700 was raised for equipment.

There is another date booked for Saturday, August 4.

There was a great response from the club to the tiled handprints.

The club changing rooms are getting refurbished and the prints will be a special part of the developments.

Looking forward, the mini and junior sections have a number of events planned:

n August 11 – fun day, barbecue and camp out Saturday with fun for the whole family.

n Hallowe’en disco.

n Band night Friday, November 9, from 7.30pm. £5 a ticket (The Fontains).

n Ladies shopping night in November with details to follow.

n Christmas disco.
