North Shields Crusaders were due to face Blyth 3rds in the Coquet League but the opposition were unable to field a side so instead the Crusaders travelled to Horden 3rds.
Crusaders had Paul Grant at prop and Daniel Persson at full-back making their first starts of the season. And on the right wing Aaron Cottingham made his debut for the club.
Horden enjoyed the advantage of the slope in the first half and scored three quick tries to take an early lead.
They scored a fourth before half-time to lead 24-0 at the break.
In the second half Crusaders were unable to use the slope to the same advantage as the hosts and could only manage one try from Tony Hansen.
Horden added a further three tries in the second half and ended the game 43-5 winners.
The scoreline was not really a true reflection of the match and Crusaders deserved to take more from the game.
They defended well and the pack had the edge in the scrum.
Next week it is a return to league action with a trip to play Medicals Serpents, kick-off 3pm.
