AFTER last week’s cup heroics, North Shields RFC returned to league action with Seghill the visitors to Preston playing fields.

Shields dominated and immediately got on the scoreboard when a charge down by Gary Crombie allowed Andrew Burrows to collect the loose ball and score.

Skipper Barry Elliot added to the scoreline after the Shields rolling maul powered over.

Next on the scoresheet was Dale Harrison who pounced on the ball, after it spilled out of a Seghill scrum.

Perhaps the best try of the day came next when Gavin Duffy, who had a sublime kicking game, kicked clear. The Shields chase was good, Burrows secured turnover possession and fed Daniel Persson who sprinted in to score from halfway.

Centre Dale Jones was in on the act next before hooker Gavin Irving displayed his strength to go over.

Duffy scored his second try in consecutive weeks before further trieds came from Ben Dalton and Jones

On Saturday North Shields are at home again, when Hartlepool Athletic are the visitors.
