HARTLEPOOL Athletic were delayed arriving for their Durham and Northumberland League division three game at North Shields due to a traffic jam following a accident.
This delay did them no favours as it obviously affected their match preparations and North Shields had warmed up twice and started at a fast pace.
They put Hartlepool under intense pressure from the kick-off, and although the Hartlepool defence initially held the attacks, in the seventh minute Dean Harrison finished off one attack with a try.
Gavin Duffy hit the post with the conversion attempt and it bounced back onto the pitch.
North Shields continued to pound the Hartlepool defence and following a lineout a controlled drive by the North Shields forwards resulted in a try by back row Dale Harrison, beautifully converted from wide out by Duffy.
The three-quarters then got in on the act with the ball going down the line for Dean Harrison to break through and put Ryan Ramsay in for a try.
Again Duffy judged the wind to perfection and added the conversion points.
Centre Dale Jones was next on the score sheet, finishing off a three-quarter move with aplomb and Duffy adding the conversion points from wide out.
Winger Peter Finlay then added a try on 25 minutes, which Duffy again converted.
To give Hartlepool their due they never stopped trying and they were rewarded on 35 minutes when one of their second row forwards crashed over for a try from a five-metre penalty award.
The half finished with North Shields winning a scrum and working the ball left for winger Ramsay to beat two men and touch down for an unconverted try.
This made the half-time score 38-5 to North Shields with use of the wind to come in the second half.
North Shields spectators did not have to wait long to applaud another score as two minutes into the half a three-quarter move created the gap for Ryan Jones to go through and score an unconverted try.
Not to be outdone, Dale Jones scored next when a long kick out of defence resulted in a high bounce of the ball and its downward trajectory fell nicely into his hands and he went over for a try.
Further tries then followed at regular intervals for the home side.
Dale Harrison, Gavin Duffy, Peter Finlay, Jack West, Ryan Jones, Ryan Ramsay, Harry Watson, Dean Harrison (2) and finally Oliver Randall all scoring with Duffy adding four conversions.
