The Bushido Judo Kwai had six members entered in the Westgate Judo Club Graded Tournament at Westgate Centre for Sport in Newcastle.
First out was Millie Williams, age nine, who had three wins to win a gold medal.
Eight-year-old Ellie Hutton, the club’s top junior member, took a silver with two wins while Jack Barnett, nine, won the club’s second gold of the day in fine style, with three wins.
Callum McInnes, 11, was the smallest in his group but showed good fighting spirit to win a silver.
Jessica Cairns, 12, fighting at 48kg, won her silver medal in an evenly matched group. Senior member Michael Mains, who has just recently joined the club, competed in his first judo competition and fought his heart out in a very talented pool, but in the end had to settle for a bronze medal.
