NORTH Shields-based Terminus Judo Club entered five members in the North East Judo competition while the rest of the club were at a team building day.
In the girls’ primary section, Millie Richardson was awarded gold and was presented with a certificate for the best Ippon throw in her group.
Also in the boys’ primary section, Jordan Patterson won a runners-up medal as well as a certificate for the best player in his group for his efforts and determination for a six-year-old, only narrowingly missing out on the bronze.
In the junior section, ten-year-old Owen Casey came up against players of a much higher grade and weight difference, and despite being asked by the organisers if he wanted to withdraw he carried on and went home with a runners-up medal.
Danny Patterson took gold in his respective group and went on to win bronze in the men’s open weight.
Mal Richardson, who only took up judo six months ago and recently gained his yellow belt, entered the men’s senior section in his first competition.
Despite being up against more experienced opponents, he fought his best and is now looking forward to his next competition in November.
The Terminus club train on Monday and Wednesday and are coached by Bill Tierney.
