ST CUTHBERT’S RC Primary School, in only their third game of competitive rugby league, and Holystone played out an excellent game in spring sunshine.

The Years 5 and 6 Holystone team is full of talent and when they combine most sides would struggle, but to their credit St Cuthbert’s never gave up and battled to the end.

Holystone ran out 42-12 winners but both sides gave their all.

St Cuthbert’s: Adam Beattie, Hannah Beattie, John Callan, Billy Fitzpatrick, Bradley French, Molly Grillon, Luke Haughy, Niamh Hughes, Jack Morgan, Joseph O’Donnal, Ben Smith, Beth Taylor, Keirran Vasey

Holystone: Oliver Aird, Angel Aitchison, Christopher Archibald, Jonathon Beck, Charlie Bews Archie Broadbent, Matthew Brooks, Cameron Douglas, Emma Hallowell, Cameron ilderton, Megan Joyce, Elliott Thompson, Oliver Tovey.

Man of the match for a superlative defensive display was Holystone’s Cameron Ilderton.

Meanwhile, a Years 1 and 2 game between Star of the Sea Primary and Monkhouse Primary finished level.

This was definitely a game of two halves, or, at least, two periods, with the home side winning the first game comfortably, then Whitehouse taking the next four.

Game six was a thrilling tie then Star of the Sea went on to win the last three leaving the nine game series level at 4-4 with one game drawn.
