Rockcliff recovered from the previous week’s disappointing result at Winlaton with a bonus point win at Houghton le Spring.

New signing Chris McCabe got the Red and Golds off to a great start when he powered his way over to score under the posts.

Houghton recovered though, and scored two well worked tries to go 12-7 up with ten minutes of the half remaining.

McCabe then scored his second of the game, crashing over to equalise, but once again Houghton came back with a scintillating try to change ends in the lead.

In the second half Rockcliff upped the gears and scored four more tries through Simon Ayre, Dan Atkinson, Rob Starker and Liam Bowman, the latter score coming as a result of a great forward drive.

The 36-22 result moves Rockcliff into fifth place in Durham and Northumberland Division 2, still in touch with the promotion places.

Rockcliff are next in action against Percy Park in the traditional Boxing Day fixture.
