AN ATHELTICS event at Churchill Playing Fields in Whitley Bay last week marked two important running milestones.
As well as celebrating 100 days until the start of the 2012 Olympic Games, the day also marked runner Graham Smith’s North Tyneside leg in his bid to run 2012 miles in 2012 to raise £2,012 for the Tony Blair Foundation.
Graham is a quarter of the way through the year and has already completed the equivalent of 24.3 marathons, running 5.5 miles every day of the year.
The athletics event was organised by the North of Tyne Athletics Network (NOTAN) to mark 100 days until the start of the 2012 London Olympics.
Activities included an inflatable pole vault, jumps, throws, relays, run and tug of war.
