Tynemouth CC’s First Team had a superb and exciting 20/20 victory on Friday night at home to Chester-le-Street.
The hosts elected to make first use of a good batting track and put on 130-6.
Matt Brown (25) and Nick Armstrong (19) put on 37 for the first wicket but the main star was Ruhan Pretorious with 51no batting at No.4.
Chester’s reply was steady and always in contention. Wickets fell at regular intervals but the score kept mounting.
Phil Morse took two wickets as did young Ryan Macciocchi and Tynemouth just about kept on top. The game was finally balanced with Chester 120-6 and their final total was 127-8 giving Tynemouth the better of the evening by only three runs in a nail-biting finish.
Saturday’s three fixtures all fell foul of the weather.
The First Team were at Blaydon and saved by the rain when 25-3 off 13 gruelling overs after being invited to bat first.
The reverse fixture for the Second Team at Preston Avenue did not even see a start. An under-strength Third Team travelled to Bomarsund and were perhaps fortunate when rain intervened with their total on 27-2.
