A junior basketball team are celebrating after one of their Under 16 teams won the Eagles Community Foundation Central Venue League D2 title.

North Shields Thunder clinched the league on the last day of games in nail-biting fashion with an overtime win to pip their local rivals to the title after having a better head-to-head record.

The boys have managed to win a league that was the closest fought in the history of the CVL as five teams all still had a chance on the last day.

The club is based at John Spence Community High School and are always welcoming new players of any age, gender and ability to come and be part of a successful club.

Training times are: U12, Thursday, 4.30pm to 6pm; U14, Wednesday, 5pm to 6.30pm; U16 Wednesday 5pm to 6.30pm; U18, Wednesday, 6.30pm to 8pm; and Men, Wednesday, 8pm to 10pm.
