COLLINGWOOD Tennis Club’s eight and under red team had a tough opening day 9-7 loss to last year’s winners Ponteland in the north east mini tennis winter league.
Jacob Eccles, Ethan Veitch and Malcolm Winton all won two matches each against strong opposition.
Lewis Hills performed well in his first mini red for Collingwood, winning an opening day match.
The club’s greenball team fared slightly better against Cramlington on Sunday at Churchill indoor centre with Ellis Collings and Libby Hall leading the way by winning their singles matches.
Collings teamed up with Clara Loughlin to win the 3/4 doubles, but with Hall and Mia Wallace losing a close two set doubles the tie ended a more than amicable 3-3 draw.
Collingwood orange team had a good opening day victory over Beverly Park with Josh Harrison starring with two singles wins and a doubles victory with Jacob Eccles.
Eccles lost a close singles 9-7 in the third set before winning the reverse singles.
Eleanor King had an outstanding game in the mini orange leagues, winning all three matches on her debut including a doubles with Josh Barnaby, who also won both singles to cap a good 9-1 victory.
