North Shields School of Boxing were well represented at the Tyne Tees & Wear Senior Novice Championships with three boxers all looking to get their seasons off to a winning start.

It was a return to the ring for both Chris Barton and Tony Chalmers after a number of seasons inactivity.

Barton was matched against in form boxer T Hill from Redcar. Although Barton appeared ring rusty at the start, he applied himself well but lost on a points decision against the taller fighter.

Chalmers also showed effects of his inactivity but boxed well to win the rounds and take a well-earned decision against another local boxer in L Hoering from Forest Hall.

Next up from the North Shields team was Andy Spowart, fresh from his victory in Leeds from the previous week, against the experienced Liam Kelly from North Benwell Amateur Boxing Club.

This was a close bout with both boxers taking a share of the rounds with a good technical display with Kelly taking a very close split decision.

North Shields School Of Boxing is holding the annual home show on Wednesday, November 13, at Kings Street Social Club.

A total of 12 local boxers will be competing on what promises to be an excellent night of amateur boxing. Doors open at 7pm and tickets are available at £12 each.
