Tynemouth kept their NEPL title aspirations alive with a win against a resilient Gateshead Fell side.

The team picked up their 10th and final wicket with just

seven balls remaining in a thrilling finish to a contest the home side dominated for much of the day.

Earlier, skipper Ben Debnam had won the toss and elected to bat on a dry wicket and, together with opening partner Armstrong, put together a fine half century partnership before Armstrong wasadjudged lbw to Daley for 22.

Graeme Hallam for once looked out of touch and failed to trouble the scorers.

His dismissal, however, brought Matty Brown to the crease and for the next couple of hours the home spectators were treated to an innings of high quality.

Brown can frustrate but on this day played beautifully, timing the ball well and hitting it to all parts. In this form he makes the game look so easy.

He made 80 before being bowled by Arkle but by then the Seasiders were well on top.

Debnam’s 35 and a patient but well-made 47 not out from Tahir Khan were the pick of the rest and the declaration came after 57 overs at 237-9.

Basement side Gateshead Fell were determined from the start and Stacy and Pinkney set the tone with a 25 run partnership off 12 overs before Hymers had Stacy caught by Straughan for 14.

Tahir Khan was introduced to the attack early and rewarded his skipper with fine figures of 6-30 off 20 overs; the best figures yet for this popular club professional.

However, with his fine spell completed the rest of the Tynemouth attack struggled to finish off a Fell side batting very doggedly.

In a very exciting finish and, with everyone surrounding the batsmen, Martin Pollard managed to force an error from Elliot who was caught expertly at short leg by Chris Fairley.

With just seven balls remaining Tynemouth certainly left it late but this was another deserved victory for the home side and keeps their good run going.

Next up on Saturday is Durham Academy at Preston Avenue.

Wickets are pitched at 11.30 and the bar is open to spectators from noon.

On Sunday Tynemouth lost to Stockton off the final ball in the NEPL T20 Finals day at the Emirates.

Again Brown was the pick of the batsmen with 35, however, wickets fell regularly after a fine opening partnership and a score of 122 always looked vulnerable.

Tynemouth bowled and fielded well but were pipped by a Stockton side that finished decisively with four wickets to spare.

Stockton will now represent the NEPL in the Regional Finals of this prestigious national competition.

The Second Team travelled to the Fell were bowled out for 151 in the 35th over leaving Gateshead Fell a generous 70 overs to better a disappointing score in a four wickets victory.

The Third Team visited Ashington Rugby Club and made only 94 off 33 overs and were defeated.
