Both Tynemouth teams suffered defeats at the hands of Stockton.
The First Team started their season with the long away trip and fielded first as their hosts posted 275-8 declared.
Opener K Jennings scored an impressive 105 not out. Wickets were shared by the Tynemouth bowlers with David Hymers 2-63, Lonnberg 1-47, Andrew Smith 3-55, Tahir Khan 1-72 and Phil Morse 1-24.
In reply Tynemouth made a paltry 70 all out with Morse opening and top scoring with 20. Jennings took 5-17 after Hooker with two wickets began the collapse and Hammond with another two finished off the rout.
Tynemouth’s Second string also started the season well below par in the home fixture against Stockton.
A late start due to traffic issues for the visitors had no effect on their ability to bowl good line and length on a seaming wicket.
Tynemouth got in to all sorts of trouble in the first over losing two wickets for no runs. In an innings littered with batsmen who need to practice more, four of the top six failed to trouble the scorer.
The only shining light in an innings of 87 all out was a spirited 26 from Simon Ward. Baird took six wickets.
Tynemouth did not perform much better with the ball, taking only one wicket, claimed by Richard Hay as Stockton chased down the target with ease.
Improvements must be made and availability of players across the club needs to improve.
Next week Tynemouth host Hetton Lyons.
