All of Tynemouth Cricket Club’s fixtures were washed out in the deluge of rain which hit the region on Saturday.
Earlier in the week, the club’s Under 11s travelled to Morpeth for their first league game of the season.
Tynemouth were asked to bat first and made good runs without losing wickets, with Daniel Weir top scoring with six as they reached 22 at the half way stage.
The remaining batsmen played well, but lost a couple of wickets, as the innings closed on 31 to leave Tynemouth on 231.
In reply, the Tynemouth opening bowlers kept it tight and the pressure on the Morpeth batsmen with both Weir and Joseph Snowden.
But some explosive batting from Morpeth’s third pair added 23 runs and put them within 12 runs of victory with just four overs remaining.
But some tight bowling by Sam Byerley and Mahdi Ahmed saw them both take a wicket each as Morpeth finished in 219, losing by 12 runs.
On Saturday, Tynemouth CC First XI are away to South Shields in the NEPL (11.30am start) while the Seconds are at home to South Shields, 1pm start.
