Collingwood Tennis Club boys’ 16s team opened up their Aegon Northeast League season with a convincing win over South North Churchill at Priors Park last weekend.
Olly Drake took the captain’s role and duly won his singles 6-0, 6-0, as did Miles Pearson and Tom Ridley.
Matt Robson had a tougher game but came through with determination to win in three sets and ensure Collingwood took all the points in an emphatic 12-0 win.
Collingwood girls’ 16s team were also in action on Saturday at Yarm where they also secured a 12-0 victory with Laura Van Ransbeke and Ailsa Denholm keeping up their unbeaten record in the doubles.
And with Hannah Chapman and Esmai Jonczyk-Brown also providing a formidable doubles pairing, Collingwood won both doubles games.
Jonczyk-Brown had the tougher of the singles matches but showed resilience to come through in the third set tie-break to put Collingwood top of the league.
