Rockcliff Vikings scored four tries and two conversions in friendly win against Percy Park Marauders, with the scores evenly spread between the two halves.
Ryan Yellop opened the scoring after ten minutes when fast hands down the back line set the young winger away and be beat his opposite number and the full-back to score in the corner. Chris Forster added the conversion for 7-0.
Fifteen minutes later the mercurial Ross Bailey took a quick tap penalty and the ball was spun out to the versatile Josh Donnelly, who shipped the ball on to full back Simon Tindall and he stepped his marker and popped the ball to James Rogerson who was high tackled into touch as he approached the line and was awarded a penalty try.
There was no conversion, and the sides changed ends with the Vikings leading 12-0.
Twenty minutes into the second half Nick Dalton broke for the line and as he was tackled Douglas, Hall was in support to pick up and drive through the Marauders defence from ten yards out to score. Forster added he extras for 19-0.
The final score was the try of the match.
Man of the match Matty Dunbar picked up a loose ball and broke upfield before passing to Chris Nixon, who bumped off a defender and popped the ball to Rob Straker and he ran the ball in from 40 metres out, stepping out of two tackles to score wide of the posts for 24-0.
Next week, second placed Rockcliff first team resume Durham and Northumberland division two league action away to Ashington.
There are four league games left for Rockcliff to secure promotion, including the Ashington game, which is followed by the visit of league leaders Ryton on April 5, then the last road trip of the season away to Hartlepool on April 12 before the final league game at home to third placed Sunderland on April 19.
Training takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.30pm at the club in Lovaine Avenue, Whitley Bay.
