Whitley Warriors coach Simon Leach’s hectic close season continued as he secured the services of another three players.
Nathan Ryder, Joe Harley and Mark Turnbull are the latest to join the roster for the 2013-14 campaign.
Both Ryder and Harley were part of Warriors first team squad last season while goaltender Turnbull moves up to the senior set up having been part of the Whitley Braves under-18 side last term.
Ryder brings a great deal of versatility to the Warriors line-up as he can operate in both defensive and offensive positions with ease.
He picked up 14 points in the 29 games he appeared in last campaign, which is a creditable total given he divided his time between operating on the blue line and at centre ice.
The signings of Harley and Turnbull ensure Warriors have strength in depth in goal with the two youngsters joining senior netminder Richie Lawson on Whitley’s roster.
Harley impressed supporters in the second half of last season when he was called upon to start a number of crucial matches when Whitley’s more experienced goaltenders were unavailable.
He has shown that he is more than ready to operate at NIHL level as he was able to post an impressive 88 per cent save percentage in the 11 games he played in, and the youngster will no doubt be keen to continue his impressive progress this coming season.
The 2013-14 campaign will be Turnbull’s first in the senior set up, however, his junior stats make pleasing reading as the teenager saved more than 87 per cent of the shots he faced last year and ended the campaign with a goals against average of just over three per game.
It is thought that Turnbull will compete with Harley and Lawson for a place on Warriors’ bench throughout the campaign.
Following the latest three additions to the Warriors squad, Whitley’s roster is looking well rounded and it appears to have strength in depth in every department.
Warriors are inviting supporters to the their first social event of the season, a pub quiz, at the Ice Rink Bar on Sunday, July 21, starting at 5.30pm.
