WHITLEY Bay Rockcliff RFC held their annual general meeting last week and Lawrence Fletcher was unanimously re-elected as chairman.
Andrew Webster was appointed club captain, replacing Drew Hayton, and he will be supported by former captain Neil Thornton, who was elected as chairman of senior rugby.
Light training sessions are currently being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.30pm at the club in Lovaine Avenue Whitley Bay, and pre-season training will sart in the first week of July. All players new and old welcome.
Rockcliff junior rugby have appointed New Zealand rugby ace Johnny Liddicoat as under-13s coach to work alongside existing coach Sean Edney.
This is the first time Rockcliff will have put together an under-13s team and are looking for new players to join those already recruited.
Liddicoat: “Since I had to give up the game prematurely due to a climbing accident, I’ve been itching to put something back into the game that has brought me so much pleasure.
“I’d noticed how much fun the minis coaches and kids were having and spoke to a few of their guys about how to get into helping. To be honest, I’ve been taken back how welcoming and encouraging the club have been.
“My aim now is to build up this section, playing fun, exciting, flowing rugby, in true All Blacks style.”
If anybody wants to join Whitley Bay Rockcliff’s Under-13s next season, then turn up Sundays, 10.30am to noon, over the summer and ask for Johnny or Sean. All players are welcome.
