RUGBY league enthusiasts at Whitley Bay High School travelled to Huddersfield in West Yorkshire for a friendly against Salendine Nook High School.
The match was a warm-up for the north east team in preparation for their Carnegie Champion Schools clash with St Edmund Arrowsmith.
The event also saw Whitley Bay reunited with their previous community rugby league coach and now Huddersfield Giants development officer Steve Beaty.
In a tight match Salendine Nook won 24-20.
Steve said: “It’s fantastic to see two rugby league schools come together regardless of distance to play and enjoy the sport.
“Great desire in defence from both teams ensured the game was close. Both Salendine Nook and Whitley Bay’s players were a credit to themselves and their schools alike.”
The fantastic day of rugby league for Whitley Bay High was topped off by a stadium tour of the Galpharm and special question and answer session with Giants superstar Luke O’Donnell.
