IT was a winning weekend at Beverley Park Tennis Club as both boys’ under-16 teams celebrated home victories.
The boys’ A team got their Northumberland and Durham League campaign off to the best possible start with a comprehensive victory over Virgin Active Wearside.
Phil Williams and Dom Widdas playing at one and two won their singles, with Widdas only dropping two games in his two-set victory while Williams showed great resilience to win a third set tie-break.
They also teamed up to win their doubles, and with Tom Rickards only dropping two games in his singles victory the match was secure.
Jamie Farnworth battled hard but lost out in his singles, but with doubles partner Rickards completed a 5-1 match result by winning their game.
The boys’ B team bounced back from a recent away defeat with a hard fought 4-2 win against Boldon.
James Thomas playing at one battled hard but lost out in his singles to a higher ranked player.
Jamie Farnworth, playing his second club match of the weekend, and Cameron Barlow comfortably won their singles.
Barlow and doubles partner Jacob Sloan then produced another win.
With the other doubles result going to the away team it was left to Sloan to secure the overall victory with a heroic 10-8 third set tie-break win in his singles.
