Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Hockey Club men’s first team ran out 6-3 winners against Bowdon seconds at the weekend.

The game was open during the early stages and both teams had opportunities to take the lead, with Bowdon having one effort disallowed as the shot was from out of the area.

Shortly after, WBTHC took the lead when Hall fired through the keeper’s legs from the top of the area with a quick shot.

Soon Hall was on hand again to double the lead when he slotted the ball passed the advancing keeper after good build-up play from the home midfield.

With WBTHC now in control, it was not long before they had a third when Jackson burst into the D, firing a powerful strike towards Lockey, who deflected home from close range.

Bowdon reduced the deficit with a well finished reverse stick stroke into the bottom corner.

The home team would have the final say of the half, however, as Titmus was on hand to finish with a reverse stick shot of his own to make the half-time score 4-1.

In the second period Bowdon were forced to commit men forward and were vulnerable on the counter attack and soon Titmus grabbed his second and third to complete his hat-trick and put the game out of reach at 6-1.

In the final five minutes the home side lost concentration grabbed two goals, the last coming from the penalty spot.
