Whitley Bay & Tynemouth men’s hockey first team enjoyed a successful home performance over second placed Preston.

The hosts expected to be under pressure but it was not the case as both teams were equally matched and play went from end to end.

Preston had better chances at converting penalty corners but the cat-like reactions of keeper Fotheringham kept them at bay.

Fruitful attacks with Lockey, Titmus and Traynor gave the home side a 2-0 lead at half time.

Preston regrouped for a while in the second half and came back with two goals but this was superseded by another two from the home side.

The final score leaves Whitley Bay & Tynemouth only four points behind Preston with two more games to play. Next week the 1sts travel to Ben Rhydding.

The Second Team drew 2-2 with Stockton before beating Newcastle University 2-1 the following day.

The Mens 3rd team suffered a disappointing 4-2 loss at Newcastle Medics.

Whitley Bay & Tynemouth Ladies first team last 1-0 to Loughborough while there were also defeats for the Seconds, Thirds and Fourth sides.
