A LOCAL author is set to feature on BBC Radio 4 programme Ramblings next week.
Barry Stone will share one of his favourite walks through Whitley Bay.
On the show, which will be aired at 3pm on Thursday, June 28, Barry, his partner Paul Simpson and Labrador Bonzo, join presenter Clare Balding on a walk through the town in which he grew up.
The show is part of series of six dog-themed episodes in which Clare shares a walk that is relevant to the life of the person she is interviewing.
Barry’s semi-autobiographical novel, Barking at Winston, draws many references to his childhood in Whitley Bay and features beloved family dog Brucie, whom Barry’s family rescued from Whitley Bay kennels in 1968.
He said: “We begin outside the house where I grew up in the Esplanade, head along the beach to St Mary’s Island, then turn inland through Holywell Dene to where Paul and I live in Holywell Village.
“Whitley Bay is forever in my heart and I’m extra proud that in writing my book about Brucie I’ve now helped to make the town feature on Ramblings.”
Barry will be signing copies of Barking At Winston from 11am at Waterstones at Silverlink retail park in Wallsend on Saturday.
