Young dancers from the borough have seen their dreams come true by performing on stage at Disneyland Paris.

The performing arts students from West Monkseaton-based Bommel Musical Theatre School performed excerpts from the hit musicals Matilda, Wicked and Shrek The Musical.

Following successful auditions, the students really impressed a packed international audience at the famous resort.

The Bommel Musical Theatre School is sponsored by Whitley Bay-based charity Angels of the North, and its honorary chief executive Barbara Connors-Fowler said she was so proud of all the youngsters.

“I have seen them perform at rehearsals, in local hotels and on big stages and their enthusiasm and talent is always so obvious to all,” she said.

Local residents will have an opportunity to see the children perform at a carol singing and seasonal music programme at Intu Eldon Square Shopping Centre, Newcastle in the run-up to Christmas this year.

The performers will also include choirs from Whitley Bay churches, local schools, the charity Out of Sight, Whitley Bay Operatic Society, Depaul UK’s Compass House and The Bommel Musical Theatre School, who will be performing each afternoon from Sunday, December 7, to Wednesday, December 24, in Chevy Chase in front of John Lewis.
