A Hollywood star from North Tyneside is celebrating after a film’s soaring success at this year’s Oscars.

Andrea Riseborough, who grew up in Whitley Bay, was one of the stars in the film ‘Birdman’ which won a host of Oscars at the 87th Academy Awards on Sunday.

The film – which also stars Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, Naomi Watts and Edward Norton – went home with the top prize of Best Picture.

It also won Oscars for Best Director (Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu), Best Original Screenplay, and Best Cinematography.

Birdman stars Michael Keaton as an actor who once played an iconic superhero and now faces troubles with his ego and family as he prepares to mount a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim past glory.

Andrea has also starred in Oblivion, Shadow Dancer and Welcome to the Punch.
