An eggs-tra special hunt is taking place for all the family at Tynemouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium.
The attraction is hosting a sub-aquatic Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday as part of their holiday activities.
Running from April 3 to April 6, ‘Hoppy Easter’ also features Egg Quiz Trails around the aquarium, themed quizzes and a variety of other egg-themed events.
On Sunday visitors will have to track down a series of eggs which have been hidden around the displays. There will be prizes for those who successfully find them all.
And a number of the aquarium’s other inhabitants will also be joining in the fun.
Keepers have been busy hard-boiling and then decorating eggs which they will be hiding in both the monkey and the otter enclosures.
They are also devising some suitably egg-like treats for their seals and sea lions to enjoy.
Blue Reef Aquarium’s Caitlin Shield said: “Following the success of last year’s event we decided to again devise an Easter Egg Hunt that was a little bit different and reflected what we do here at the aquarium, so we decided to hide the eggs inside the displays.
“Hopefully it will provide a fun, novel experience for our visitors to enjoy and it will also be interesting to see whether the temporary addition of eggs to their displays will provoke any interesting reaction from the fish.
“Both our monkeys and our otters love eggs and would supplement their normal diet in the wild with them from time to time.
“I’m sure our hard-boiled versions will go down extremely well and it won’t take them long to track them down.”
